NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION

Neighborhood revitalization occurs through the renovation of blighted homes, constructing porches to promote neighborhood unity, and engaging the youth in the community to tap into their creativity and ingenuity to reactivate vacant lots in the neighborhood.

Bridge of Grace is revitalizing our neighborhood through home renovation by returning blighted and vacant properties to productive use. In the long-term, increasing the rate of homeownership – by providing access to beautiful and affordable housing – will strengthen our neighborhood, increasing community pride as well as access to equity.

We are also leading an effort to transform Mount Vernon Park’s vacant lots into vibrant community spaces using low-cost and upcycled materials like tires and pallets. Three community spaces have been created to date: an obstacle course for youth on the corner of Gaywood and Fairfax, a space for community arts including music and performances on the 5100 block of Smith Street, and a multi-generational space for socializing and gathering on Mount Vernon Park Drive. Plans for a community urban garden are also underway.
