VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers can participate in a variety of roles and time commitments during the school year. Mentors and group leaders ideally commit to 1-4 days weekly for the school year.

Shorter-term commitments could include leading worship or devotional time, leading an enrichment activity, being a guest speaker, or coordinating snacks.

Mentors

Research tells us that a meaningful relationship with a safe adult is one of the best ways we can support students in our neighborhood. One of the cornerstones of our afterschool program is 1-1 or small group mentorship time.

Every day, students will get to spend 30 minutes with a mentor building a relationship of trust and support. This time can be spent talking, playing a game, reading, or doing something fun!

Group Leaders

Our afterschool program works on a rotation that changes every 30 minutes. To ensure consistency and safety, our group leaders act as the support for their group.

Snack Volunteers

After a long day of school, our students come hungry to our program. The snack volunteers help to schedule, take inventory, prepare, and clean up snack time. This volunteer position arrives prior to scheduled start time to prepare and may leave once they have finished snack time and cleaned up or may stay for the program’s duration in another volunteer role.

Guest Facilitators

Leaders for Spiritual development, Worship, and Quarterly Focus Themes

Guest facilitators can volunteer for one day, one week, or even one quarter at a time!

  • Spiritual development is an important component of our program. Our students have a 30-minute rotation for this area every day. We would love to have volunteers who will lead worship and/or lead an interactive and age-relevant bible devotion.

  • Each quarter our program will have a focus of learning and enrichment. We are seeking volunteers who have an expertise in areas of sports, arts, STEM, and other areas of study that our students can learn about. Quarterly focus leaders will plan to develop a 30-minute lesson/experience for students that will be shared with 3 groups. Some examples include:
  • Sports unit – volunteer leads intro to sports class, game time or schedule a coach/ team to come speak/play with kids. (Ex: local university team, high school team, park, and rec. dept, etc.)

  • Arts unit – volunteer to plan and teach art classes. Also *schedules and gathers supplies for art instructors to teach a lesson, music, painting, pottery, etc.

  • Games unit – *schedule and bring in guests to teach chess 2-3x, Science Central robotics 2-3x, ACPL Lego club 2-3x., etc.
